Out of the Box
The Wonderffle Stuffed Waffle Iron comes factory-seasoned. Before using it for the first time, be sure to give it a quick wash just with running water and a dish towel then dry it off by hand. Now you're ready to get cooking!
Cleaning After Use
After normal use, you can clean your stuffed waffle iron by simply wiping it down with paper towel to remove excess grease or pieces of food. Keep it stored in a dry place.
In cases where the stuffed waffle iron needs a more thorough cleaning, feel free to use dish soap.
Steel wool or other metal tools can be used to remove food stuck to the pans.
A bottle brush is another good option to clean between the indentions of the pans.
Seasoning is simply the process of baking a thin layer of oil onto the cast iron surface. It helps in cooking by filling in tiny gaps in porous cast iron to give it a stick-resistant surface. It also protects the metal by providing a rust-resistant coating.
You may want to re-season after continued heavy use, when food begins to stick to the pan, or if your pans become dull, grey, or rusty.
Begin by pre-heating the oven to 350 °F.
Place a cookie sheet or an aluminum foil sheet onto the bottom rack of the oven this will catch any excess oil that might fall from the pans while in the oven.
Thoroughly clean the pan surfaces as described above. Use a metal tool to remove rusty spots. Thoroughly dry with a paper towel.
Pour a couple of teaspoons of vegetable or canola oil into a small bowl, dipping the end of a basting brush into the oil and rubbing a thin layer of oil around all surfaces of the pans, including the handles. We recommend using a natural boar hair bristled brush.
Rub oil onto the inside and outside pan surfaces. Rub just enough oil to give the surfaces a slight sheen. Applying too much oil will cause the pans to get sticky.
Do the same with the top, bottom, and center pans.
Be sure to rub oil on the handles as well.
Place the pans flat side up into the oven.
Bake in the oven for 1 hour. Turn off the oven and let the pans cool down inside for at least another hour.
